So, a couple of weeks ago we were planning to go to a show - a lineup of musical bands that was gonna go late. Hubby thought we should take a taxi so there'd be no worries about parking, late-night traffic, etc. etc. A small group of friends thought that was a great idea and decided to join us as they were planning to attend the show too. The meeting place was one of our favorite local eateries. Taxi's ETD was 6:30. So...as is my husband's style, he suggests we leave a 'little early' like 5:30. It's a 5-minute drive to the restaurant. Why argue? I've lived with the man for 31 years and to him, 15 minutes early is already late, so off we go....

We arrived, found a great spot to park and ran into some friends who were having a meal. They happened to be going to the SAME show we were going to. We engaged in small talk for a few moments and I told him a friend of ours had arranged a cab to transport us all and he asked, "have you ever ridden in a karaoke cab?" I laughed out loud and said, "No! You wouldn't want to hear me sing! I would have absolutely NO reason to get into a karaoke cab unless my husband was going to sing because he has an amaaaaaazzzzzzinggggg voice."

Hubby suddenly hollers, "cab's here!" I got up from my seat, trotted out to the cab and I couldn't believe my eyes. Our friend had indeed ordered a KARAOKE CAB! I was laughing so hard. I had to take a picture. I also had to text my friend who asked if I'd ever ridden in a karaoke cab to tell him I was doing exactly that!

Sure enough, as I had predicted, after we all insisted, hubby sang. By the time he'd searched through the books and picked a song, and endured our crazy laughter, he began... The ride wasn't long enough for him to really serenade all of us, but at least we got a sample of his velvet voice...

When we arrived at the venue I realized I'd forgotten something in my car at the restaurant! Oh, no. What to do? I asked the cab driver, "what would you charge me for another round trip? I have to get back to my vehicle!" He was so gracious and offered me a deal I couldn't pass up. I immediately agreed and off we flew, back to our beginning spot...

He asked if I wanted to sing, but I told him that I would NOT submit him to such torture! Instead we just talked. I interviewed him as he drove and found out he had such an inspiring story. He told me about his children, each one of them, and how his choices and trials over the years had kept them at a distance for a season but that he was finding restoration and healing and it all began with FACEBOOK! That was where the communication began to happen. OMGosh I was enthralled.

Here was a father, deeply concerned about his children and painfully honest about his weaknesses and shortcomings. No doubt he will go the distance and have a wonderful testimony to share.

He whisked me to my car and back to the venue in record time. Mission accomplished and I was stoked to hear such a great Dad-kid story.
