Under: No Ordinary Family
Every time a special event pops up, I'm stumped about what to wear. Come to think of it, just about every time I leave the house for a meet-and-greet, I'm stumped about what to wear. I can get it almost right quite often, but the wrong shoes with the right outfit are just wrong and can mess up the whole thing. I can be really good at wrong belts, wrong shoes, wrong hair....I'm not obsessed - too many folks can testify to seeing me in my flannel jammies, granny robe with no make-up and hag hair. It's a common occurrence to have guests of my kids or hubby pop in unannounced, getting a birds-eye view of my morning look. Generally, it really doesn't bother me. Most days I can throw on a jog suit and tie a pony tail and walk, shop, clean and work all day long without accouterments, but when I'm heading out for a social time, I want to be put together.
Now some of you are gonna get real holy on me right now and proclaim that all this is worldly concern and not something we should focus on. Yep and nope.
My hubby likes me to look the way he likes me to look. (I've got a hair story I'll tell you some time...) I like for him to like the way I look. Come to think of it, I like to be able to put together my outfits, hair, make-up and accessories in a way that brings me peace and joy so I don't have to think about what I'm wearing or be uncomfortable and awkward the whole time I'm wearing it.
Who can deny that it's a very pleasant experience to receive compliments about appearance? So as I see it, it's not important, but it is important.
Kids are many things, but how could I have dreamed that my two dear daughters-in-law would have become such rich resources for me in so many ways? Now that we all have smart phones, I can text them quickly for advice on an outfit-in-the-works and often we can nail it right there on the spot. Here are several pics I've taken for advice from them and to keep for memory on their wise counsel regarding Momma Mira's wardrobe selections...
